The Real Homestyle rub adds a savory pop to this southern classic snack that comes together in less than 30 minutes.
Ingredients:
- 2 c. cheddar cheese (one 8 oz. block), shredded and brought to room temperature
- 1 c. unsalted butter, room temperature
- 2 c. all purpose flour
- 1 Tbsp. baking powder
- 1 Tbsp. The Real Homestyle rub
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Cream together butter and cheese in stand mixer until well blended.
- Add baking powder and Homestyle and beat on medium speed until blended.
- Add flour and beat on medium speed for about 5 minutes or until very creamy. Gradually add a little bit of water at a time and continue to cream until batter reaches the proper consistency for piping (a little bit stiffer than peanut butter).
- Using a cookie press or decorating bag with a star tip, pipe cheese straws onto a parchment-lined baking sheet (approx. 3 in. in length), leaving space between straws for some spreading.
- Bake 15-17 minutes or until golden.
- Remove from oven and allow to cool completely before handling.
Tip: Need to bring butter to room temp quickly? Fill a tall glass with very hot water. Discard the water and place the glass over a stick of butter stood on end for a few minutes to bring the butter up in temp without melting it.
